Quick Start Setup and Use Guide
Anatomy of a Groqit

Turning It On:
Holding any of the five buttons for 2 seconds turns your Groqit on. It
will display
GROQIT, then the main menu. This helps to prevent accidental operation.
UP/DOWN - these buttons scroll the menus and lists. Holding one for more
than a second will start rapid scrolling.
ENTER - selects whatever is high-lighted on the display.
RETURN - moves you back or up one level. It is also a backspace when editing.
SCAN - this turns the reader module on (but only when you have selected
the Category and Function you want; it takes a few button presses before
the Groqit is ready to scan.)
To turn it off - Scroll to the top of the menu (OFF) and press ENTER. Your
Groqit will also shut off after 2 minutes without any button being pressed.
Holding your Groqit

There are different ways you can hold the Groqit, different techniques
for using it effectively. If you experiment you might find you
like a different way from the one shown here, but we find this
works well for most of us. Note that the reading
angle makes a difference:

About the Barcode Reader
The Groqit’s conical tip houses the barcode reader. The contact
reader has a short focal length for greater optical power. The read lens
must physically contact the barcode. It will not read through
jewel cases.
Hints on using the Groqit to read barcodes
The barcode reader is a contact wand; it must touch the surface it is
reading.
It is necessary to remove CD jewel cases to scan their barcodes.
Swipe the reader quickly once you press the SCAN button. Don't hold the
button down.
Pressing
hard distorts the barcode and makes reading more difficult.
You should see a red light at the tip when you scan. You have 2 seconds
to complete your scan.
If you hear two beeps, you must tap the button again to re-scan.
Some Definitions:
Category: The Groqit has separate places to keep track of different kinds
of things;
BOOKS is one of the Categories on your Groqit's Main Menu.
Main Menu: The top level Menu appears when you first
turn your Groqit on. The Display shows you only two of the 10
Main Menu items at a time. The factory setting initially shows
you the "BOOKS" and "EXAMPLE1" Categories
used in the tutorial, though you can change these settings and
add categories.
Function: Some Menu items are not Categories but Functions, which offer
you options for things you can do, such as Scan a barcode, or Add or Delete
items from your lists. Two of the Main Menu items are Functions (OFF and
CONFIGURE)
Sub-Menu: Each Main Menu item has a Sub-Menu which you can Navigate to
using the buttons. All the Categories have the same Sub-Menu, which allows
you to Check what's on your lists, add to them, and delete items.
Advantages of Registering your Groqit:
By going to http//www.groqit.com and clicking on the "Sign Up" button
near the top, you can quickly register your Groqit, and use some of the
features of the web site free.
You can upload your Groqit's inventory for safekeeping on our server.
You can try out the Lookup capabilities to translate barcodes into human-readable
form, so that you know you have not just a BOOK with a barcode number,
but also crucial information like Author and Title.
