Advanced:

How do I store a backup of my Groqit on my computer?

There are three ways to store your Groqit's data on your computer:

1. Export your data from groqit.com to a folder/sub-directory on your computer.

2. Copy all of the Categories on your Groqit and Paste them into a folder/sub-directory on your computer.

3. Use archiving software, such as WinZIP, WinRAR, tar, gzip, zip, Info-Mac archive, hyperarchive to create an archive on your computer.

How do I store a backup of my Groqit on the Groqit site?

You register your Groqit by going to http//www.Groqit.com, clicking on “Signup” and following the directions. The Groqit plugs into one of your computer’s USB ports. You download an application called the Groqit Desktop Application (GDA) which performs secure data transfer between your Groqit and the web site. (Our software should work on your Windows PC or your Mac.)

The backup function copies all of the barcode files from your Groqit into a protected area on our server. Monthly backups are FREE, as is the GDA. You do not have to have a paid membership on our site to keep your personal inventory safe.

How do I safely disconnect my Groqit from my computer?

Before removing your Groqit from your computer, Stop and/or unmount, and “eject” it as you would any other removable media. In Windows, use the “Unplug or Eject Tool.” Mac users go to Finder and click the “Eject” button next to the Groqit’s name in your list of drives.

Advanced (import/export):

Bulk loading of barcodes

If you have already entered your collection's barcode into another software package OR you want to key in a large number of non-readable barcodes, you can use a text editor (TextEdit on Macs or Notebook on Windows) to load them into your Groqit. Each Category has a barcode file in it. Open the barcode file in the desired Category and enter the barcodes, one to a line. When done, save and close the file, start the GDA, and run Sync. The barcodes will be added to your online inventory, translated and downloaded into your Groqit. The barcode file will also be sorted and re-written.

How do I import files from other applications or documents?

Your Groqit has no importing capability.   It uses simple text files that are structured to facilitate searching and cannot import or convert other file types.

What kinds of files can the Groqit import?

None.   If you have barcodes in a sorted ASCII DOS format on your computer, you can create a category on your Groqit and place the barcodes in a file called "barcode" without any extension.   Your Groqit, the GDA and Groqit.com will treat this file as if it was created by the Groqit.

Placing existing collections on your Groqit

If you have already put data about your collections into your computer, you can place them on your Groqit.   The requirements are simple, but inflexible:

•  The file name can only have eight characters and cannot have an extension.

•  The file can contain upper case ASCII only.   A-Z, blank/space, 0-9

•  Each record must be on it's own line ending with CR-LF (standard DOS text file)

•  The fields in a record separated by the pipe character "|" (chr 124)

•  The file must be sorted in ascending order.

Groqit, LLC cannot assist you in performing this conversion. We encourage you to post your questions on the Groqit Forum.

How do I export files from the Groqit to another format?

Your Groqit cannot export file, but your data on Groqit.com can be exported.

What kind of files can the Groqit export?

Groqit.com will export files in Microsoft Excel format (xls) and as Comma Separated Variables (csv).
