What can I do on
Groqit.com - free - even if I don't own a Groqit?
You can make and share lists of things you own, or want to own. This
means you and your designated "Groqit Buddies" can get each other gifts
that you know you'll like, without duplicating stuff you've already got.
Our site makes it easy to get full information about your books, games,
movies and music without you doing all the tedious data-entry work. When
you make your lists, you can enter something as basic as an UPC (barcode)
number, or a "Title and Author" identifier and our site helps by supplying
more information.
You have access to all of the membership features, including making categories,
manual lookups and adds, editing items, requesting and accepting Groqit
Buddies, making and exchanging Registry lists and viewing Registries that
your Buddies have shared with you.
All you have to do is sign up. We gather enough information about
you to make it so you can connect with your chosen Groqit Buddies - and
we will never violate your privacy by sharing your information
with anyone you do not specifically invite to be your Groqit Buddy!
What are the limitations?
There is a limit of 100 items
per Category. You'll be able to see the lists on your computer
(although of course, since your don't own a Groqit, you can't make the
lists portable).
What's the catch?
We figure a lot of people will try out the service and then decide to get
a Groqit so they can have their lists with them when they go out shopping. If
you get a Groqit later, you can download the stuff you've already got stored
on the Groqit site.
Also, allowing people to use the Member Services free of charge makes each
Groqit much more valuable, by connecting people who can share lists with
the Groqit owner. If you own a Groqit, you can invite your friends
to sign up and share lists. Then you have the Wish Lists of everyone
you need to go gift-shopping for! And though your non-Groqit-owning
friends can't download your lists, they can see them on their computers,
so they can buy you something you really want, and know they don't risk
getting you something you already have.
How to use the Groqit Site to get what YOU want:
Example one: Swapping
stuff
Let's say you have a wish list and one of your Buddies has a copy of an
item on your list. This is a way for them to find out and trade you
for something you don't want any more.
Example two: Getting the presents you want
Say you've got 100 games, but you still want more. You know what
you've got, but you're the only one who does. The people who should
be buying you another game (or game accessory) can't keep track. They
can if you give them lists of what you DON'T want to have another copy of. That's
in addition to your Wish list(s), of course.
Or let's say you've got a really great collection of classic films. Your
friends are in awe, naturally, but they wouldn't dare get you a
movie as a present, because they figure you've probably got it. So
if you post lists of the movies you've got, they might surprise
you with a movie they think you'd like, instead of some unimaginative
fruit-basket or another sweater!
Say you have a Grandmother, who knows you collect Transformers or Bratz.
She may not know exactly what you have or want. She doesn't keep
up, but she likes to buy you stuff (as do all grandmothers). If you
have your inventory in your MyGroqit area, you can share the lists with
her, she can buy a Groqit, download the lists and always know what you need
to complete your set.
If you want to be really sure, get her the Groqit as a present. Be
sure to load your Wish Lists on to it.
Example three: Gift-giving made fearless
Say you're the grandmother to the kid with 100 games and the
one with the complicated toys. You buy a Groqit and have the grandkids
join up, create, and share their lists. You can download the lists
and go shopping, with no worry about duplicating a toy, game or accessory. They
don't even need to know the barcodes, they can type in the names or titles. Each
list is sorted when it gets downloaded. You can search or view the
lists whenever you wish.
Loans
Whether you borrow books from friends or they borrow them from you, the
Groqit site is a great way to keep track of which books got loaned out to
whom.
Things you don't have and don't want
You can even keep track of movies you have rented. You might want
to keep a list of movies you hated, so you know what you don't want to see
again. Sometimes there's a popular author you find you really don't like. You
can have a "stuff I hated" list. (This sounds silly until you realize
you've just gotten a second book by someone who's writing style
makes you squirm.)
Insurance
Make your Personal Inventory lists on line. If something bad happens,
you can buy a Groqit and download your lists, to show your insurance company
what you HAD.
