Groqit Buddies and the Registry
Not only does your Groqit remember everything you have, it can also keep
track of your friends' collections. Groqit Buddies are friends and
family that also own Groqits. The Registry allows you to share your
collections with your friends and they can share their own collections with
you.
Groqit Buddies
On the My Groqit page, your Groqit Buddies are listed in the middle of
the page. You can also access your Buddies via the Member navbar. Clicking
on Add Buddy takes you to a page were you can send a request to be buddies
with you. To maintain privacy, you need to know the email address
your friend uses on Groqit.com. Type in their address and
click Send Buddy Request. You will see a message saying the request
has been sent.
In the request, there will be a link. By clicking on the link, your
friend can become a Groqit Buddy. Only one of you needs to submit
a request, because Buddies are buddies an it goes both ways.
Click on the Buddies button.
Until your Groqit buddy clicks on the
link, you will see their name and "Request Pending" The
person you have sent the request will also see a request pending, if they
look at their GB list.
GB requests are sent by do_not_reply@groqit.com. A
request will contain the registered name of the person making the request
and a link. Click the link in your email or log into your Groqit
account and click the request in Buddies. You must be logged
in to authenticate the request. If someone types in your request number,
they will fail authentication. This prevents anyone from making
you a GB without your consent. A GB request sent to you will only
work for you.
If you click Yes on the confirmation page, you and your new GB will be
connected. Click on the Buddies button to view your new buddy. Clicking
on your Buddy's name will display the lists you have shared and the lists
they have shared with you.
To remove a GB, go to the Buddies page and click Remove Buddy next to their
name. You will be asked to confirm a removal. If you remove
a GB, you are also removed from their list, and vice versa. Creating
a GB requires consent, but either of you can break the link.
Registry and shared lists
Registry lists control what part of your inventory will be shared and who
will see the lists. To create a list, click on Create New List on
the Registry page or Add List on your MyGroqit page.
The Create New List page has five sections: the List
Name, Description, Categories, Buddies to share and data fields to display. The
list name and description can be whatever you want them to be, but we recommend
that the name be different from any of your Category names and it convey
some idea of the contents. If you want to have a list named Books
and put the Category music into it, you can, but people might find
that confusing. You may select any number of Categories from one
to all of them by highlighting the Categories. Hold the CTRL key down while
selecting to make multiple selections. Click on the buddies you want
to share the list with. Again, hold the Ctrl key to select multiple buddies. Finally
check off the fields you want your buddies to see and click the Create New
List button. Title and barcode are always checked.
If you go back to the MyGroqit page or the registry page and click on the
list name, you will see the new list and who you are sharing the list with. You
can edit the list of buddies, change the displayed columns, or edit the
Categories on the list.
We recommend keep Categories containing a wishlist separate from Categories
containing items you own. That way your Buddies can tell if you have
something or want it.
Registries shared with you
Once a GB shares a registry, you will be able to view the inventory in
the list and download it to your Groqit.
On the Registry page, you will see the option "Make Downloadable" next
to a shared list. When you click on this option, you are asked
to give it a Category name. This is when the list will appear on your Groqit,
so YOU pick the name (mychoice). The Registry list changes and shows Linked
to mychoice | Remove link. The next time you do a Web Sync, your Buddy's
list downloads to your Groqit.
You can also add notes to
their items. This is very useful for wishlists, because you can tell
them you've purchased the item.
